Nearly a month back into the coronavirus pandemic just about every industry has been hit hard. Every sports league in the world is currently either canceled or postponed and the odds of sports league resuming for the remainder of their regular seasons or playoffs is slim to non. The impact goes greater than that as leagues are making cuts to both employees and salary and the projections of revenue lost are in the billions. Technology and Industry Leaders Create Non-profit Initiative to Produce Masks for COVID-19
Technology and Industry leaders have come together to start a non-profit initiative to create respirator type masks. These 3D printed makes cost approximately 2-3 dollars per unit of materials and are being distributed to the public and health care professionals at no cost. Maker Mask is also the only 3D printed mask that is reviewed and endorsed by medical professionals. Because the mask is reusable and has components are that able to be cleaned and replaced, the Maker Mask is equivalent to 300 disposable masks over a two month period.

Why regulating social media will not solve online hate speech
Social media platforms are becoming the new favored background for hate and the trends seems to be going global. Many social media platforms are beginning to regulate hateful content but the real need is to take a look at the industry of online hate and understand how these hateful messages can be potentially damaging to social media users. This article answers the questions: Is the new social Media polarizing societies?
After reading the article, I found that in order for there to be peace on the internet there has to be peace in the world as well. In recent time in the U.S. and globally there has been some major changes in how people from different races, cultural backgrounds and genders are being treated. Since there us still that level of discrimination amongst people there will always be some sort of disconnect on these social platforms.
“The internet only mirrors the world, it may reflect it, but it does not create it”(Joshi, 2019).
Conspiracy Theorists Inspire Acts of Arson Towards Cell Towers in the United Kingdom
In recent news regarding the global Coronavirus pandemic, a theory has surfaced claiming that 5G service is linked to the spread of the virus. The connection is primarily fueled by social media users pointing out the new use of 5G coinciding with the surge in Coronavirus cases. The main claim in this theory is that Wuhan, the city in China largely associated with the early phases of virus spread, was a location that had received 5G service for research and testing purposes.
Following the growing publicity of this highly unlikely theory, groups in the UK have began setting 5G cell towers on fire in an attempt to curb the spread of the deadly virus. In this Verge article, author Tom Warren explains how 5G uses a higher frequency of wavelength than 3G or 4G, but has no scientific link to the Coronavirus or its spread.
Working in Health Care Data
Here at FSU we have a healthcare track in IT, but what does that mean, what does it require, and how much will you stand to make?
According to Noodle.com – ” Healthcare data analysts collect, examine, and organize information to create better medical practices”. You don’t have to have a Masters degree or work with patients to do this job.
Working with data in a healthcare setting can be very important. Digital records allow doctors to access files quickly and efficiently. Data Collection gives doctors a eye in the sky look at what can be effective treatment.
As a Data Analyst you collect raw information and set it up so people working i healthcare can understand it. You don’t have to be a doctor to understand it and you can usually start with a bachelors degree.
Basic job duties include collecting information, going over old data, maintaining data, and mining data. You also need to be able to communicate with your coworkers and put the information into a language that they can understand. You’ll need to be a problem solver as well.
As a data health admin you’ll be working in places like hospitals, insurance companies, and government agencies. You may not need a lot of technical skills, but you’ll need to know something like Python, SQL, or Java.
How much are you going to make as a Data Analyst? Somewhere in the area of $40-60,000 a year. Once you’ve been in the system for a while, you can make closer to the area of $78,000. If you advance your degree, you can make over $100,000 a year.
Hopefully you’ll consider this growing field of study and look at what you can get out of a degree specializing in Data and Health Informatics. As a growing field, FSU is accommodating those who want to go into the field and offering classes that specialize in what is needed to start in hopefully a rewarding career.
Google Location Services Acting as a Tracking Tool During COVID-19 Crisis
Representatives at Google have released that they are making use of location services to track just how many individuals are practicing social distancing. While it is a finable offense in parts of the United States, necessary errands are still allowed, causing more and more people to blindly spread the disease.
In addition to this, most of the preventative measures in place now were not in place during many school’s Spring Break weeks. Location data comes in handy in this case by allowing researchers to track the potential of virus spread based off of cell tower pings from busy areas such as Florida beaches on Spring Break. CNET stresses in this article, that Google does not currently have access to individual’s personal data, and sees each device as an anonymous ping on a map.
Apple Uses Voysis for a leg up on the competition
Apple is currently falling behind in the digital assistant marketplace. Once the frontrunner with the creation of Siri, other companies followed with Google’s creation of their home assistant, Amazon’s Alexa and Samsung’s Bixby. Over time Google’s home assistant has stood out over all over voice assistants due to its unique ability to follow natural language. While all digital assistants can accept commands Google’s home assistant does the best at interpreting meaning from natural speech. With Apple’s acquisition of Voysis, this could quickly change. Voysis integration of AI into the shopping marketplace has allowed for their AI to be the most useful in the online marketplace. For example, users are able to tell the digital assistant what item they’re interested in and a budget for that item. This is extremely useful for electronic sales such as laptops because of the wide range in price and ability of these systems. To learn more about the abilities of Voysis read on!
Where the $2 TRILLION is going
You all have probably heard that the government has assigned a $2 trillion budget but most of the people dont know where this money is being spent. I have attached a photo bellow which shows how much money is being assigned for each category. I have also attached a website in which it talks about the increased number of coronavirus testings done nationwide

Artificial Intelligence: Revolutionizing Medicine, One AI Machine at a Time
In today’s world, Artificial Intelligence has become increasingly prevalent within the healthcare industry – and for great reason. There have been bots to help monitor patients who must stay at home, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic that is affecting the entire world at the moment.
It has found new solutions for antibiotics – being able to predict which drugs would interact harshly much faster than the man-made route could accomplish. Now, AI in the healthcare industry is now setting its sights on a new task: detecting blood for signs of lung cancer.
There has been an AI machine developed that could screen patients for lung cancer by screening their blood for the common DNA mutations that implicate diseases, more particularly lung cancer. It studies the free-floating DNA circulating within the patient’s bloodstream.
Whilst the machine cannot diagnose cancer with complete confidence, but what it instead does is flags cases that are more likely to be affected by the disease. This is a revolutionary discovery in the field of artificial intelligence, and can help for early detection of many people as well.

Manufacturing Industry Expected to Boost Internet of Things Market in Near Future
In 2019, the Internet of Things (IoT) market was valued at USD 221.18 billion in 2019. By 2025, the market is predicted to reach 575.36 billion. An 18% growth, that can mainly be attributed to the manufacturing industry.
According to this report, published on ResearchAndMarkets.com, the manufacturing industry has dealt with an increasing demand to become more transparent in their production practices, releasing figures and other information related to the production of their products. The IoT makes this process easier than ever, as they can simplify the data collection process drastically.
These products also enable real-time interactions among systems and machines, increasing the production flow in plants and factories by monitoring development, and inventories.
Some key market trends uncovered in this report include:
“Improved inventory management, due to the availability of real-time visibility of items and the ability to track and keep a count of inventory, is a very important outcome of the implementation of IoT in manufacturing industries.”
“The collection of manufacturing information, expiry date, manufacturing date, after sales status, and warranty period, using tracking devices, like RFID tags, will improve efficiency in supply chain monitoring in the manufacturing process.”
“According to a study, around 34% of the manufacturers believe it is extremely necessary that US manufacturers adopt IoT in operations. “
