Will AI Take Your Job?

Artificial Intelligence will not eliminate every retail job, but economists say Americans should be worried that technology will soon replace much of the work done by humans. If AI is not politically and economically restricted there is a good chance many retail jobs will be replaced by AI. Today online retailers have already been using AI applications to configure what customers want and how to get it to them quickly.

An example of a business using AI already is Amazon. They use AI to calculate how many drivers are needed in an area at any moment, based on different variables such as package volume even weight and travel time. All of which is calculated by AI, truly showing just a glimpse of how powerful AI can be.

Even though AI technology directly threatens existing retail jobs, it has created many new jobs as well. This is due to the fact that AI technology such as ones controlling online retail stores still require human touch to guide AI. Even though retail jobs have declined jobs such as delivery service drivers and tractor trailer drivers such as Amazon for example have increased tremendously. AI will create many new opportunities; in the end I think the good will out way the bad in regard to the impact AI will have. We need to accept that AI is coming, it is time to embrace it.

Pew Research and Black Lives Matter?

This article gives you a look at the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag and how it has propelled many other hashtags to come to fruition for a social cause. The Pew Research Center shares statistics on how Americans view Social Media as a tool for making a difference, socially, but so far the reviews are mixed.

The impact of the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag on Twitter reached millions. It has been used nearly “30 million times on Twitter – an average of 17,002 times per day – as of May 1st, 2018” (Pew Research Center, Activism in the Social Media Age). The article focuses on #BLM, but think about how many times #MAGA or #MeToo or #SayHerName has been used to advance a social issue that is happening to a specific group of people.

Black and brown folks have taken advantage of social media as a platform to speak on social problems that are occurring in their communities. When you are on Twitter or Instagram, you can filter what you see, but there will be times when you receive content that is new and you cannot un-see a social problem that creeps its way into your feed. Chinese government censors coronavirus social media posts

https://www.technologyreview.com/s/615124/coronavirus-china-wuhan-hong-kong-misinformation-censorship/

For many years now, Chinese citizens have been very skeptical about information delivered by the Chinese government. Information delivered by the Chinese government is known to contain tons of misinformation and withhold many details in an effort to maintain order and stability. Because of this, many Chinese citizens turn to social media as a medium for trustworthy information and news. With the death toll from the coronavirus being currently as high as 250 people, Chinese citizens search for as much trustworthy information as they can regarding the effects of this deadly virus. In an effort to control the information that is released about the coronavirus, many of the social media posts made by Chinese citizens about the coronavirus have been censored, or even completely deleted, by the Chinese government. Not only that, but police in China are going as far as to detain citizens for “spreading rumors” if they are found spreading information online about the virus.

In my opinion, the Chinese government is doing its people a grave misjustice by censoring information and news on social media about the coronavirus at such a scary time in the country’s history. Chinese citizens already do not trust information from the Chinese government. By continuing to censor information on social media and not giving citizens the ability to give first-hand accounts of their experiences with the virus, the Chinese government is increasing citizens’ mistrust for them. I think that it is even worse that Chinese citizens are being detained by police for “spreading rumors” on social media about the virus. As a citizen of China, you have no other way to communicate information about the virus other than to “spread rumors” because you live in a country where your government gets to decide what information you should and shouldn’t know.

Veterans Receive Free Training in STEM Fields

While returning as a veteran can be an exciting experience, it can also be a daunting one for vets looking to return to the work force. The transition from active military to civilian is different for each individual, but can be a challenge especially for those who did not receive a higher level education or are disabled.

In this article by Military.com, they list the multiple ways that vets can receive free courses and certifications for tech jobs upon their return home. For many individuals, this could play a huge factor in their career success. Veteran unemployment is a frequent occurrence within the United States, largely because of disabilities as a result of their time in the military, or their lack of familiarity with the resources they have access to.

Technology courses and certification are a highly valuable skill for any individual in the workforce, but studies have shown that many veterans are actually ideal candidates for careers within the STEM field because of their experience.

AIs use regarding Coronavirus

Coronavirus has grabbed the attention of the world, being declared a global emergency. With AI already having been used in the past in the field of healthcare, how can AI help regarding the Coronavirus? To start, simply processing huge amounts of data from multiple countries and are in multiple languages is a task that would require immense manpower traditionally, though with AI assistance this task is reduced in difficulty significantly. Instead of spending their time making sense of data, health experts can spend their valuable time on responding to the virus itself. AI also has the ability to predict where the virus will spread to or could move to next, which would allow for those areas and health professionals to prepare for it in advance. It’s also possible for AI to create possible vaccination formulations, which is a task usually filled with trial and error and not something an AI could do independently, though it can assist professionals which saves crucial time.

How Artificial Intelligence Can Change Auto Insurance

Insurance companies can monitor a customers driving. As AI becomes more popular and advanced, this will be more common. If the customers driving is good and they take safe routes, then they will end up with a discount. It would be hard for bad drivers to get insurance because of the price, which would result in them having to improve their driving or find another means of transportation. This would result in the roads being more safe.

Cloud computing overview

With cloud computing being such a new idea, many people don’t understand it or have simply never heard of it. When someone uses the term “cloud.” What they mean is an offsite location different from where you are in which you are accessing data.
