Apple Homekit: Have you heard of it?

Cheap and affordable smart technology is all the craze, but you might want to change that way of thinking. Apple has a smart device released at a retail price of 300 dollars, but it might just be worth investing in. Apple Homekit has all the same functions as the popular Alexa, Echo, and Google Home but according to recent reviews has an increased level of security. Unlike the other smart devices that partner with thousands of companies, Apple is more selective which means all the companies they partner with can afford to set up high-levels of security; which in turn makes their product safer. CNET states ” Amazon focuses on convenience-centric features, such as “Wi-Fi simple setup.” And it’s not just one partnership: Apple is doubling down on the security front, offering a new feature called Homekit Secure Video, which encrypts and stores security footage for free on iCloud.” Amazon and Google may win in the convenience category, but Apple is thinking in terms of long-term safety.

We live in a world where we want what is simple, easy, and cheap. When I look for a smart device those are the things I first look for. When a security issue then happens because we did not choose to look at the level of safety, then we can complain. If this smart device is something we are going to have in our homes for a long time, than maybe we need to think more long-term than short-term. With that being said, which device would you choose?

Mental Health Technology For Inmates

With more than 10 million individuals in prison at any given time and more than 30 million circulating through each year, the inmate population represents a large part of our communities. Roughly 27 percent of state and federal prisoners have been told by a mental health provider that they have a mental health disorder, and many do not receive services in jail that they need to manage it.

Texas A&M’s Telehealth Counseling Clinic now is providing inmates with direct contact to qualified counselors, through video conferencing and wireless communications.

You’re Not Being Stalked (you actually kind of are), It’s Just Programmatic.

Remember that time you were looking at shoes on Amazon and then the next thing you know you’re scrolling on your Instagram feed and see an ad for those shoes? That is programmatic advertising. A key function of adtech is programmatic advertising, which is how advertisers are able to target ads to you using your data. They are able to use adtech to automate ad placements and bidding. This makes ad targeting more efficient and improves the effectiveness of campaigns. Businesses, both large and small, are turning to programmatic advertising to increase sales and brand awareness. Another advantage of programmatic is that it has the ability to integrate omnichannel advertising, which allows businesses to target ads to consumers through multiple media channels.

China implements AI and big data to combat virus.

China, a global leader in surveillance technology, have implemented body temperature sensing cameras in various public location in order to help contain the spread of the coronavirus. Additionally, AI-assisted facial recognition cameras are already being implemented, with authorities actively monitoring the movements of suspected infected people. On top of cameras, China’s using big data including collection tracking information from mobile phones. Other measures include mobile apps that allow users to find out if they’ve come into proximity of an infected person using public information of known infected individuals and their previous locations. While it is important to contain the spread of the coronavirus, many are suspicious of the collection and use of the data regarding privacy and safety.
