Inaccessible HTML

Web developers are running into issues where some html elements are inaccessible in some browsers. This issue creates a problem when it comes to UX design. When a developer makes use of these elements without realizing that they are inaccessible to some browsers it can cause a user friendly website to turn into a poorly designed mess. I can attest to this from my own experience with web development. I created a website and used a lot of formatting to make everything look right and while it appeared great in some browsers in others it was a jumbled mess. Checkout the attached article to see a list of some inaccessible html elements.

Hackers’ delight: Small businesses investing more in Internet of Things, less on cybersecurity

The results from a survey, recently conducted, found that small businesses plan to invest more into IoT devices rather than cybersecurity software. IoT stands for Internet of Things and encompasses a wide variety of devices such as thermostats and lights that utilize smart technology. These devices are typically connected and can be controlled through most smartphones. It was recorded that small businesses are prioritizing these novelty products over cybersecurity plans. This is alarming because according to the Version 2019 Data Breach Investigations Report, 43% of cyberattacks target small businesses.

Perhaps the biggest misconception small business owners make is the idea that they do not understand why a hacker would waste their time on a small company in the first place. In reality the smaller companies make better targets. Smaller companies do not always have the resources to invest in cybersecurity. This makes it easier for attackers to target several small companies at the same time rather than attacking a larger company. Professionals in the article recommend seeking any form of cybersecurity to discourage attackers. Prevention is essential in this time of growing cybercriminal activity. It is better to have systems in place and never use it than to be caught by surprise and lose assets. Read More.

Potential Discrimination Through Social Media Ads

In today’s social media driven world the job market is becoming easily accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. With recruiting sites like Linkedin, Zip Recruiter, and Monster.com employers are now utilizing these sites to seek out talent acquisition. In 2018 , “The Communication Workers of America(CWA) filed a class action lawsuit against Amazon, T-Mobile, Cox-communications and Cox media group alleging age discrimination in their Facebook ads”(Anderson 2018). Meaning, these employees from these website have filtered and adjusted their settings on their job ads to target only employees under 40.

This then creates the question of , does social media create discrimination issues for employers? Although, this happened in 2018 I wouldn’t be surprised if this was happening current day with targeting specific people for jobs. I feel as though these companies should instead create spaces on social media where their able to protect their business while also finding talent from people of all ages and races.
