Social media platforms take a stance

With social media rising, cyberbullying isn’t going away. One way many platforms are trying to stop and decline the amount of cyberbullying is by recognizing offensive captions and comments. Specifically, Instagram has recently rolled out an AI feature that will notify users when a comment is offensive or potentially offensive. If users do wish to continue to post that specific comment or caption and it is reported, you can get shadowbanned. This is a feature to try and keep people from posting these comments and thinking twice about what they are going to say.

Having social media platforms taking a stance against bullying and banning those who continue to say rude or mean things can help change the path of cyberbullying. It can make it become increasingly harder to be mean online. Pictures are a harder feature to scan through a filter, but these platforms also have the ability to report a specific post or entire profile and once they get enough reports, they can get temporarily banned or even permanently banned.

If you notice someone being mean or hateful on social media, help others and report their post or profile.
