China implements AI and big data to combat virus.

China, a global leader in surveillance technology, have implemented body temperature sensing cameras in various public location in order to help contain the spread of the coronavirus. Additionally, AI-assisted facial recognition cameras are already being implemented, with authorities actively monitoring the movements of suspected infected people. On top of cameras, China’s using big data including collection tracking information from mobile phones. Other measures include mobile apps that allow users to find out if they’ve come into proximity of an infected person using public information of known infected individuals and their previous locations. While it is important to contain the spread of the coronavirus, many are suspicious of the collection and use of the data regarding privacy and safety.
