Social media is and has been impacting our society from the moment Facebook gained momentum. By creating a social movement, you have the ability to gain folks you would have never had access to. With Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, you can reach folks in Europe, Africa, South America, etc. You can learn from social movements happening across the globe, across the seas, and across the street. The ways of “traditional” activism are now an option, not a must.

The author of this piece stresses that to be build a successful movement, you need to: see a need and meet it, give people space to make a better world, and encourage them to do it often.

Who would have thought that by creating social networks via the Internet that entire social movements would be created and facilitated through these platforms???
