Running on Technology: Assistive Tech and its Role in Sports

Technology plays a huge role in many people’s lives, but often times it plays an even larger role for those with disabilities. Within the disabled community, assistive technology has become a necessity for athletes competing at a higher level. Between extremely aerodynamic prosthetics, and more specific technologies for individual sport uses, there is no shortage of innovation among these pieces of technology.

As far as the more niche, advanced technology for specific circumstances go, the Paragolfer is an excellent example of assistive technology. This technology, designed by a wounded veteran, was made so that a paralyzed individual wouldn’t be restricted from playing standing sports such as golf. This device was featured in Cisco UKI’s highlights of assistive technology in 2016, and upon further research has now extended from a single device for personal use to a branded piece of technology for sale to paralyzed users.
