Car hacking has hit the streets! As more devices are being connected to the web, the internet of things is quickly encompassing more than just laptops, desktops and smart phones. The hacking incidents, as written on ‘The Edge’ a cybersecurity news site, range from stealing cars by hacking keyless entry fobs to tracking trucks by compromising online fleet services.

The spike in attacks, which more than doubled in 2019, is due to the large amount of connected and embedded systems in vehicles as well as the research that has laid the ground for many of the attacks that is plastered all over the internet. Most attacks focus on the keyless entry system (30%), the application servers for the service (27%), the mobile application for the service (13%), or the onboard diagnostic port used by mechanics to service the vehicle, according to the article.
