Tarana Burke started the #MeToo movement in 2006. 12 years later, the movement has helped many survivors be able to come out and share their stories with the world, in a way that did not require a face-to-face explanation, which might be extremely difficult for some. In 2006, social media was not quite at the level it is now, but to continuously fight for survivors even when there was a small audience, is astonishing. Tarana Burke was the catalyst the 2000s needed to unapologetically bring this dialouge to the table.
