A recently identified coronavirus has been spreading in China. It originated in Wuhan and has now reached several other countries, including the US. Contagious diseases have been human’s most deadly enemies for a very long time since it is impossible to know when they will strike. Hopefully technology is evolving, and we are developing powerful tools that can now help us defend ourselves. Artificial intelligence is one and perhaps the most powerful of them right now besides quantum computing. A recent AI called BlueDot not only predicted the recent corona-virus outbreak in Beijing, but also where the virus would spread.
Personally, I believe this is huge news. Even if the AI would have predicted the outbreak one day before, it’s an incredible thing to achieve. With technology, humans have learned to predict many things like the weather, and now, virus outbreaks can be added to that list.
